Dacia Duster – Press Launch

You maybe be asking yourself, ‘Dacia, I’ve not heard of them before?” Founded in Romania in 1968, Dacia became part of the Renault Group in 1999 and will now be the newest brand to enter the Irish market. They will be bringing their full range of fresh, simple & affordable models here over the coming months and these will initially be distributed via nine existing Renault dealers across Ireland.

Today I was driving their SUV – the Duster. The SUV segment in Ireland is a busy little place, seeing growth of 9% YTD over 2011. The Duster ticks a lot of boxes that its rivals in this segment also do such as a Band B 1.5 diesel engine (110bhp), optional 2 and/or 4 wheels drive, three year warranty and multiple trim levels.

The big difference with the Duster over its rivals is price. Dacia will bring the Duster to the market for an impressive price of just €14,990. You would be forgiven for thinking that’s just a headline grabbing price but when you look through the details you still get Bluetooth, Radio/CD with USB input, fog lights, body coloured bumpers and central locking are just some of the standard features on the ‘Alternative’ trim level.

Dacia will offer all their new vehicles with a 3 year or 100,000km warranty with the option for customers to them purchase an additional two extra years for €549. It is also worth noting that Dacia have won several awards for being the ‘Most Reliable Brand’ in countries such as France, Italy & Belgium in recent years.
