Citroën Ami Buggy Rip Curl Vision revealed
The plucky French microcar has gained a beach-ready Rip Curl edition and we want it.
We are by now all familiar with Citroën’s lovable little scamp, the Ami, along with its beach-going, doorless Buggy sibling. However, Citroën has just unveiled a new Rip Curl concept edition of the Ami Buggy, which adds some attitude and a tattoo to the Buggy.
This Ami isn’t Citroën’s first collaboration with Rip Curl either; the two companies have teamed up multiple times, starting in 2016 with the C4 Cactus.

So what’s new with the Ami Buggy Rip Curl Vision? Well, first and foremost, the emphasis with this concept is on being adventure-ready. As a surf brand, Rip Curl’s partnership with the Buggy positions it as a rugged companion for any surf enthusiast.
Despite its size, the Rip Curl Buggy isn’t as much of a gimmick as it may seem. Any surf rig needs to carry surfboards, and that’s not a problem here with board mounts located on both the roof and the sides.

Inside the Ami Buggy Rip Curl Edition
Of course, any surfer will know the post-surf rigmarole of getting changed, which is why the Rip Curl Buggy features a portable shower and changing mat. And because even looking at the beach can get sand everywhere, the Buggy comes with easy-to-clean, water-resistant floor mats, which are neatly made from recycled wetsuits.
Storage is also addressed, in the form of a removable banana pouch that can be used in day-to-day life or mounted to the steering wheel, along with a foldable, waterproof bag for the passenger door.

Mechanically, this Rip Curl version is much the same as the regular Buggy; however, this one gets some unique visual cues. The body is now purple, with a white roof, and features a black spoiler and canvas sunroof. Along with the roof, the vehicle features white headlights, chunky off-road tyres, stickers, and a roof-mounted LED bar.
This colour way continues inside with purple dash storage bins, and the very cool looking purple and black seat cushions, which all make up its eco-designed interior.

What’s sets the Ami Buggy Rip Curl apart?
No fun car is complete without accessories, and the Ami Buggy doesn’t lack in that department either, with a whole host of unique accessories to this Rip Curl version. Starting with the obvious, there is, of course, a Citroën x Rip Curl surfboard that matches the design of the seat cushions’cushions. There is a wax comb for proper board maintenance, which naturally is shaped like an Ami.
Also present is a keychain and matching purple Bluetooth speaker, and courtesy of artist Charlotte Bourrus, a glass globe symbolising the shared universe of both brands: leisure, surf, adventure, and freedom.

This week sees the international finals of the Rip Curl GromSearch, held near Hossegor from November 4th to 8th. Citroën is a partner in this event and is providing Ami Buggys to be used as transport between stages. Citroën intends the Buggy to appeal to adventure-hungry youth, and according to Citroën CEO Xavier Chardon, “With this concept, we are reaffirming our commitment to making electric mobility accessible, starting with micro-mobility, accessible from the age of 14 and geared towards leisure.”

There’s no word yet if the Ami Buggy Rip Curl Vision is headed for full production, but Citroën has said it is “opening a new chapter in the collaboration between Citroën and Rip Curl, whose story is set to continue soon.”
