Maserati Ghibli to debut in Shanghai
Italian car manufacturer Maserati are set to revive the Ghibli name when they officially unveil their new four-door sports executive saloon last this month. The Shanghai Motor Show will be the stage for the new four-door Maserati which will sit below the Quattroporte and could be set to rival the likes of the BMW 5 Series.
Not all the details have been revealed just yet, but it is believed that the Ghibli will be offered with two different turbocharged 3.0 litre V6 engines, an eight speed automatic transmission and will also come in both rear and all wheel drive layouts. One of those engines will also be a diesel, something never before offered with a Maserati.
The Italian brand have big plans for the future and see the Ghibli playing a big part in that. Maserati hope to grow production to 50,000 cars per year, a very optimistic figure compared to the 6,159 units that were produced in 2011. Introducing the Ghibili at a reasonable price point could help grow sales quite a bit although it is hard to say just how many buyers it can tempt away from the more successful German brands.
