All new Skoda Octavia unveiled

Skoda is out to raise the bar in the compact segment with their all new third generation Octavia. “The ŠKODA Octavia is the heart of the ŠKODA brand,” says ŠKODA CEO Winfried Vahland. “It embodies the good ŠKODA genes in the best sense of the word: lots of room, quality, precise workmanship, modern, mature technology, timeless design, high functionality and the best price-value ratio. Our customers’ expectations have grown. Our aim was to make this car even better for its third generation. This is reflected in the values of the new Octavia – it is a class of its own.”

The new Octavia is based on the Volkswagen Group’s new MQB platform and offers increased interior length, headroom and legroom as well as a best in class boot volume of 590 litres. On the outside the new car is 90mm longer, 45mm wider than its predecessor while overall wheelbase grows by 108mm.

A range of 8 engines (four petrol & four diesel) will be offered with the Octavia including a GreenLine version with a 1.6 TDI that will have CO2 emissions of just 89g/km while consuming just 3.4 litres per 100kms. All engines barring the entry level petrol and diesel will come equipped with start-stop technology.

For the first time in a Skoda will be the option of an Adaptive Cruise Assistant which automatically maintains a pre-set distance to the car ahead while travelling at a set speed. If the car in front slows down, your car will automatically do the same in order to keep that safe distance and if you decide to change lane and overtake for example it will then automatically speed up again. Other optional features on the new Octavia include Intelligent Light Assistant which automatically dims high beams when on-coming traffic is detected. Owners can also now spec an electric panoramic sliding/tilting sunroof.

The new Skoda Octavia arrives in Ireland in early March 2013 with prices starting at €19,500 for the 1.2 TSI (86bhp). For more information you can visit www.skoda.ie or tweet @SkodaIRL
