New Pug 208 Type R5 Rally Car

Peugeot will release details on the rally bred version of their new 208 – named the Type R5 at the upcoming Paris Motor Show. Replacing the 207 Super 2000, the new car is built for tarmac and gravel and is powered by a 1.6 litre 280 bhp engine.

The Type R5 is due to go on sale later this year at a cost of €180,000. The R5 category consists of group A vehicles derived from production models, 25,000 of which must have been produced. Among the R5 category objectives set by the FIA for 2013, is a reduction in costs, including operating expenditure. Technical regulations will therefore mirror those of the S2000 category: four-wheel drive, five-speed sequential gearbox, no central differential and long travel suspension, widened tracks, a spoiler, an increase in wheel arches to fit 18″ wheels and minimum weight set at 1200kg for both gravel and tarmac versions.
