Skoda return with its fastest Octavia RS ever
The latest Skoda Octavia has seen big improvements over its predecessor and now the new Octavia RS looks set to continue that trend. Built using the MQB platform, the new Octavia RS will be available with two engines: a 2.0-litre TDI and a 2.0-litre TSI. Both engine options will be available from launch but only the Combi (estate) body style will be launched first.
Buyers opting for the diesel engine in the Octavia RS will get a punchy 2.0-litre TDI engine producing 184bhp and does away with the 0-100km/h dash in 8.1 seconds. The 2.0-litre TSI petrol engine completes the same sprint in a slightly more impressive 6.8 seconds before going on to a top speed of 154mph. As well as improving on performance the new Octavia RS engines offer better efficiency thanks to the use of start-stop technology and brake energy regeneration to help reach a claimed 19% drop in fuel consumption overall.
Making its world debut at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed, the new Octavia RS will be instantly recognisable thanks to some striking visual tweaks. A black rear diffuser, two large trapezoidal-shaped chrome exhaust tips and LED lights give the rear a distinctive look. Skoda has also lined up a very sexy selection of alloy wheels that range from 17 to 19-inch. On the inside there is some RS-design sports seats and a three-spoke steering-wheel finished in perforated leather. Door sills and pedals are made of stainless steel while the clocks are a colour-rich Maxi DOT display.
“The new ŠKODA Octavia RS is in a sports league of its own,” says ŠKODA CEO Prof. Dr. h.c. Winfried Vahland. “Our latest model stands for horsepower and fuel efficiency and, at the same time, for emotion and rationality. Never before has an Octavia RS been so fast and dynamic and yet so spacious, convenient, safe and comfortable as the third generation of our compact sports car. In this perfect combination, the new Octavia RS and Octavia Combi RS set new standards in the sporty compact class and also takes the brand’s sporty genes with it on the road. A perfect car for free time and everyday use, maximum power, the latest technology and great value for money,” explains Vahland.
