Nowadays the usual marketing fanfare associated with the launch of a new sportsbike can almost go un-noticed with the amount of launches happening. But ask any true sportsbike rider and they will all agree whether they’re a fan or not – there’s always something an extra bit special about when Ducati unveil their new wares.
Although they may not be setting the Moto GP world on fire, despite having Valentino Rossi on their bike, they have been increasing their hold on the market. They have recently entered into the muscle-bike/cruiser market with the Diavel – a whole new area for them while their re-modelled Multistrada finally has the looks to match its performance.
Ducati did upset many of their usually loyal customers when they upgraded the 1098 to 1198 without any real styling change which did leave a sour taste in many 1098 owner’s mouths as most had patiently sat on waiting lists for their bike only to find a superceeded model brough to market not long into the model cycle. Now the wait is alomost over for the latest, and possibly greatest sportsbike to come out of Bologna. Indications are that power will be close to 200bhp which might not be too far ahead of most of its rivals, but the Italian’s trump card will be its very lightweight frame construction which should offer a huge performance advantage. Here’s a little teaser.
