Triumph Street Triple RS brings the heat
The arrival of the Triumph Street Triple RS is set to spice up the naked street bike segment thanks to its tuned engine and updated styling.
It uses a tuned version of the 765cc triple that has been specially developed by Triumph’s in-house team of Moto2 engineers. The new motor features a nine per cent power increase, bringing the total output to 123hp at 11,750rpm. It should pull pretty well too thanks to a peak torque figure of 79Nm arrives at 9,350rpm.
Along with more power the Triumph Street Triple RS gets a sharper throttle for better response and the gearbox now uses shorter first and second gears to further boost acceleration. The Street Triple RS also gets a slip and assist clutch and a new Shift Assist function for improved shifting.
Riders will have five modes to choose from, all specially tuned for this bike. Even with that extra performance, Triumph has ensured that the Street Triple RS still meets the latest Euro 5 emissions standard. That’s thanks to a new freer flowing exhaust that, says Triumph, also delivers a crisper sound.
In the suspension department, the Street Triple RS gets fully adjustable 41mm Showa front forks with 115mm of travel and a fully adjustable Öhlins STX40 monoshock with a piggyback reservoir on the rear, providing 131mm of rear wheel travel.
Its brake setup is an all-Brembo affair, with four-piston M50 radial monobloc callipers up front with a span-adjustable lever, and a sliding rear calliper on the back. Sticky Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SP v3 tyres are the standard fit ensuring plenty of predictable grip for road and track use.
New LED headlights take on a new design while the daytime running lights are brighter to increase visibility on the road. There’s plenty more attention to detail elsewhere, such as new mirrors, satin metal heel guards and blacked out control plates and rear footrest hangers.
Like the other newer models in the Triumph range, the Street Triple RS gets the latest MyTriumph connectivity system with a TFT display. It enables GoPro interaction, music streaming via a smartphone and turn-by-turn navigation. Taller riders can even adjust the screen angle to get a better view of it.
Buyers will be also to order the Street Triple RS in two colours schemes: Matt Jet Black with Aluminium Silver and Yellow decals, or Silver Ice with Diablo Red and Aluminium Silver decals. Both versions comes with Diablo Red wheel stripes and an Aluminium Silver rear sub-frame.
With a total dry weight of 166kg, it promises not only to be one of the lightest bikes in the segment but also one of the most exciting. Check out our full gallery of the new Triumph below.
