First look: 2018 BMW X4

You’re looking at the all-new BMW X4. It is the second-generation, and it looks a good deal better than its predecessor. This sportier sibling to the more conventional X3 and will go head-to-head against the Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe.

Get your measuring tape out, and you’ll find that it is now 81mm longer and 37mm wider. BMW has added 54mm between the wheels, which should make passenger space even more comfortable.

All of the latest tech from BMW makes its way into the cabin, including a snazzy 10.25-inch iDrive screen. It will feature the usual rotary controller but also gets the same gesture control that first appeared on the current-generation 7 Series.

A range-topping M40i version will deliver 360hp, 500Nm and a 4.9-second 0-100km/h time courtesy of its 3.0-litre six-cylinder engine. Diesel performance fans will get the choice of a new M40d model, powered by a 3.0-litre straight-six with 326hp and a whopping 680Nm of torque.
